Artistic Direction
From April 2025 onwards
Materiais Diversos is an arts organisation founded in 2003, based in the municipality of Alcanena, with both national and international presence. It develops a plural, decentralised and gently radical programme, attentive to the urgencies of the contemporary world.
Its activity spans the performing arts — with a particular focus on contemporary dance — engaging with diverse audiences, fostering critical thinking, and questioning the present. Above all, it is a space for committed programming aimed at transformation, operating continuously throughout the year and intensifying with the Festival Materiais Diversos, held since 2009. The organisation creates artistic projects that circulate within and beyond Portugal and supports artists at various stages of their journeys, from research to presentation. Materiais Diversos can be thought of as a home-laboratory — a space for experimentation, care, production, and sharing. Its structure is rooted in a territorial and relational ecosystem that includes spaces in Minde, Alcanena, and Lisbon, hosting creative processes, residencies, presentations, and public activities. It seeks to interconnect its various lines of action and territories, involving a wide range of actors — artists, producers, curators, audiences, and organisations — around shared goals and collective action.
